On the corner of Trang Tien Street and Le Thanh Tong Street, just west of the Historical Museum, stands Hanoi Opera House, built in 1911. It is a copy of the Paris Opera. From the balcony of this beautiful building, Viet Minh called out the August Revolution after the Japanese capitulation in 1945. Trang Tien Street is an important shopping street with restaurants, hotels, cafés and the Kem Café, one of Hanoi’s most popular ice cream parlors. The fact that the street attracts many tourists is evidenced by the large number of art galleries and bookstores with English literature.
